Srinagar, Apr 12: The Private Schools Association (PSA) organised a grand and historic felicitation ceremony in honour of its Founding President and now Chief Patron, Dr. G.N Var, in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to the private education sector in Jammu & Kashmir.
On the occasion, G.N. Var was accorded a warm reception, and amid persistent requests and unanimous support from the gathering, he was formally elected as the Chief Patron of PSA—a decision that was met with resounding applause.
The ceremony was graced by renowned social scientist Dr. Maoof Shah, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry; Mehboob Hussain, Former Joint Director, School Education Department; Prof. (Dr.) Najam ud din Qazi, Former Principal, Government College of Education, Srinagar; Er. Shabir Gilani, Raham Community Services Trust and Nazim Nazir, Sub-Editor, KPS Media, inter alia.
The event saw participation of Edu Leaders, including members of the PSA central body, district presidents and zonal heads from across Kashmir province, along with prominent guests from various fields. The Chairman of Chenab Valley, Khursheed Bismal, also joined the programme virtually.
The event also marked the formal inauguration of the PSA Central Office at Neelam Lane, Civil Secretariat Road, Srinagar, symbolising a renewed commitment towards strengthening the organisation and addressing the challenges faced by private educational institutions.
Speakers noted that the association had faced a leadership vacuum after G.N Var stepped aside and stressed that his absence was deeply felt during this period.
The gathering unanimously elected the central leadership in the presence of all members, with central body positions held alongside district responsibilities, as follows: G.N Var – Chief Patron; Bilal Ahmad Bhat – President; Manzoor Ahmad Rather – Senior Vice President & Chief Spokesperson; Mohammad Syed Wani – General Secretary, Hilal Ahmad Khan – Secretary Finance, Ghulam Hassan Rather – Vice President, Kashmir Province; Shafiqul Islam Wani – Vice President, Jammu Province; Dr. Waseem Siddique – Publicity Secretary, Dr. Yasir Ramzan – Joint Secretary, Dr. Owais Mattoo – Media Incharge, Aadil Habib – District President, Srinagar; Dr. Sheikh Arshad – District President, Pulwama; Tanveer Ahmad Lone – District President, Kupwara; Firdous Mustafa – District President, Baramulla; Javaid Ahmad – District President, Ganderbal, along with all zonal presidents across Kashmir province.
G.N Var, Chief Patron, PSA, said, "I am deeply humbled by the love and trust shown by the members of PSA. This association has always stood for the welfare of students and institutions. I assure you that I will continue to guide and support this platform with full dedication.”
Dr. Maroof Shah, Guest of Honour, said, "Private educational institutions play a vital role in shaping society. Leaders like G.N Var have strengthened this sector through vision and commitment.
Mehboob Hussain, Former Joint Director, School Education Department, said, "The services of G.N Var to the education sector are immense and unforgettable. His leadership has always been inclusive and forward-looking." He added that G.N Var has played a pivotal role in strengthening private educational institutions and advocating for stakeholders’ rights.
All District Presidents, in a unified statement, said, "We unanimously reaffirm our faith in the leadership of Founding President and Chief Patron Dr. G.N Var and the central body. His guidance is crucial for present challenges and strengthening the association." The vote of thanks was presented by PRO B.A. Shah.
